HOW TO MAKE

Gummies with Oils and Tinctures

An edible gummy recipe that offers ease of use, perfect emulsification of extracts, and some flavor options that you wont find in stores.

By James Adams, updated July 18, 2023

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS

  • Using a gummy mix that is designed for a specific gummy mold enables you to accurately pre-determine the final dosage of each gummy.

  • The gentle heating process and inclusion of sunflower lecithin in the mix ensures proper emulsification of your favourite herbal oils and tinctures.

What are Oils and Tinctures?

Herbal tinctures and oils are concentrated extracts derived from your favorite plant. Tinctures are created by soaking the decarboxylated plant material in alcohol or food-grade glycerin. Herbal oils involve soaking the decarboxylated plant material in oil (MCT oil is common) under gentle heat.

Tinctures and oils can range in potency and effect depending on the process of extraction and the type of plant material used. They are known for their versatility and ease of use. They can be administered sublingually (under the tongue) or they can be added to food or beverages.

Tinctures and oils are favored by some users because they offer precise dosing control, are discreet, and have a longer shelf life compared to some other herbal products.

Why make your own edible gummies?

First and foremost, making your own gummies grants you full control over the potency and dosage of your creations. You can tailor the amount of plant extract to suit your needs and combine multiple extracts in ratios and dosages that you typically can not find in stores.

Most store bought gummies are made with low grade distillate. There are plenty of high quality, full spectrum oils and tinctures on the market. Why not turn these into mouth watering gummies for you and your friends to enjoy.

Creating your own gummies using oils and tinctures offers a cost-effective alternative to purchasing pre-made products. By taking matters into your own hands, you can save money in the long run and ensure the quality of the ingredients you use

Why use a pre-packaged gummy mix over a jello recipe you can find online?

Convenience: Save time during preparation and eliminate the need for trial and error. The mix has been formulated, measured and tested to ensure consistent results with a simple preparation method (mix, heat and pour - all in the same container).

Accuracy in Dosing: A measured gummy mix paired with a custom gummy mold lets you know exactly how many gummies each batch will produce. This allows you to accurately determine the amount of active ingredient in each gummy, ensuring consistency in potency.

Emulsification: The gummy mix contains just the right amount of natural emulsifier (sunflower lecithin) to make sure your precious active ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the batch.  The gentle heating process is also tailored to aid in the emulsification of your herbal extracts.

Texture: It took many test batches to refine the formula of the mix to produce a gummy with superior texture and the perfect chew.

Pre-packaged gummy mix vs from scratch jello-style recipe

While there is an extra cost associated with a pre-packaged gummy mix, a "from-scratch" jello recipe is not without costs. You still have to source and purchase the jello, gelatine, and lecithin. One botched batch leads to additional active ingredient purchases, negating any savings you may have gained. The gummy mix is a quick, easy-to-use, fool-proof solution that ensures results.

Typical jello-style gummy recipes result in random dosages and inconsistently distributed herbal extracts. At Maestrodose, hundreds of test batches went into designing an easy-to-use gummy mix that yields delicious, consistent, perfectly textured gummies every batch!

Why is Maestrodose better than online jello recipes?

Ease of use, guaranteed results, superior texture. No more batched batches. Hundreds of test batches went into developing a gummy making system that allows you to easily and accurately combine multiple active ingredients in dosages that work for you. Perfect emulsification of your precious active ingredients, every time.

What can I add to the mix?

Oils and tinctures:  There are many full-spectrum, strain specific oils and tinctures on the market. Why not use these superior quality active ingredients to make high-grade bespoke gummies?

Distillate: Most store bought gummies use distillate as the active ingredient. Make your own gummies using distillate to create high dosage gummies that you can't find in stores.

Mushrooms: Adaptogenic mushrooms are all the rage. A simple lemon juice mushroom extraction pairs splendidly with Maestrodose to create the perfect daily dose. Try combining mushrooms with herbal extracts in the same gummy!

Concentrates: Transform your favorite concentrates into mouthwatering gummies. Simply heat up your concentrate first to activate it for use in edibles.

Nutraceuticals: Want to make the sleep gummy of your dreams? Combine herbal tinctures with nutraceuticals like liquid melatonin to make a nigh-time gummy that hits the spot.

What flavor is the gummy mix?

Nature Citrus Flavor.  Our gummy mix uses a natural citrus flavor profile to:

a) Compliment the natural aromas of full-spectrum extracts. The citrus flavour works with your active ingredients rather than trying to over power them.

b) Works with a variety of edible gummy recipes. Think of it as a splash of citrus in your Margarita flavored gummy. Our mushroom gummy recipe uses a lemon juice extraction that pairs perfectly with the natural citrus flavor.

Why doesn't the mix include sugar?

We have left out the sugar to allow for flexibility in our recipes. You can use regular table sugar or substitute with another sweetener such as turbinado sugar (i.e. raw or cane sugar), maple syrup, or agave syrup to enhance the flavor profile of your gummies.
