WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS
Using a gummy mix that is designed for a specific gummy mold enables you to accurately pre-determine the final dosage of each gummy.
The gentle heating process and inclusion of sunflower lecithin in the mix ensures proper emulsification of your distillate.

What is Distillate?
Distillate is a refined plant extract in the form of a translucent oil. It has been stripped of all unwanted plant materials, resulting in a highly concentrated extraction that is sought after for its potency and versatility in various applications. Distillate serves as the foundation for many commercially available edibles, offering a neutral taste and aroma. The production of distillate involves a meticulous distillation process that separates specific compounds from the original plant material, resulting in a pure and concentrated oil.
Distillate can range in purity from 75% to 98% (usually closer to the latter). Typically, distillate comes in 1 mL (or 1 gram) syringes. The total amount of active ingredient in your syringe can be calculated by multiplying the purity by the weight. For example, 98% x 1g = 980mg per 1 mL syringe or 980mg/mL. Use this value as the potency when using the dose calculator in this recipe.

Why make your own distillate gummies?
First and foremost, making your own gummies grants you full control over the potency and dosage of your creations. You can tailor the amount of plant extract to suit your needs and combine multiple extracts in ratios and dosages that you typically can not find in stores.
Creating your own gummies using distillate also offers a cost-effective alternative to purchasing pre-made products. By taking matters into your own hands, you can save money in the long run and ensure the quality of the ingredients you use.
Why use a pre-packaged gummy mix over a jello recipe you can find online?
Convenience: Save time during preparation and eliminate the need for trial and error. The mix has been formulated, measured and tested to ensure consistent results with a simple preparation method (mix, heat and pour - all in the same container).
Accuracy in Dosing: A measured gummy mix paired with a custom gummy mold lets you know exactly how many gummies each batch will produce. This allows you to accurately determine the amount of active ingredient in each gummy, ensuring consistency in potency.
Emulsification: The gummy mix contains just the right amount of natural emulsifier (sunflower lecithin) to make sure your precious active ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the batch. The gentle heating process is also tailored to aid in the emulsification of your herbal extracts.
Texture: It took many test batches to refine the formula of the mix to produce a gummy with superior texture and the perfect chew.

Pre-packaged gummy mix vs from scratch jello-style recipe
While there is an extra cost associated with a pre-packaged gummy mix, a "from-scratch" jello recipe is not without costs. You still have to source and purchase the jello, gelatine, and lecithin. One botched batch leads to additional active ingredient purchases, negating any savings you may have gained. The gummy mix is a quick, easy-to-use, fool-proof solution that ensures results.
Typical jello-style gummy recipes result in random dosages and inconsistently distributed herbal extracts. At Maestrodose, hundreds of test batches went into designing an easy-to-use gummy mix that yields delicious, consistent, perfectly textured gummies every batch!

Distillate Gummy Recipes
- Simple Citrus
- Margarita
- Old Fashioned
INGREDIENTS:
1 packet Maestrodose DIY Gummy Mix
3 Tbsp (1.5 oz) water, citrus juice, or spirits
Distillate (use the calculator to determine volume)
2 Tbsp sugar
2 drops food coloring (Optional: You can add food coloring to color-code your gummy batches)
EQUIPMENT:
Stovetop waterbath (saucepan with some water at a gentle boil)
Heat resistant mixing container (Pyrex-style measuring cup works great)
Whisk (you can use a fork if you don't have a whisk)
Measuring spoons
Stopwatch (your phone works perfectly)
DIRECTIONS:
- Warm your distillate: Run the syringe of distillate under warm water for a minute or two. This will help the oil to flow out of the syringe in the next step.
Mix: Combine all of the ingredients (except sugar) together in the Pyrex measuring cup. Use the dose calculator to determine the volume of distillate to add (most syringes have gradations allowing you to determine volume). Give the contents a good whisking to combine.
Heat: Place the mixture in the stovetop waterbath, start your stopwatch and stir continuously to ensure even distribution of distillate.
Add sugar: At the one minute mark add 2 Tbsp of sugar and continue stirring for another 7 minutes.
Pour: At the 8 minute mark remove mixture from heat. Fill each chamber of the gummy mold up to the first shelf. Distribute the remaining mix evenly among the gummy cavities.
Set: Place the mold on a level surface in the freezer and allow to set for at least 3 hrs (or allow to set in refrigerator for at least 6 hours).
INGREDIENTS:
1 packet Maestrodose DIY Gummy Mix
2 Tbsp (1 oz) tequila
1 Tbsp (0.5 oz) freshly squeezed lime juice
Pinch of salt
Distillate (use the calculator to determine volume)
2 Tbsp sugar (or agave syrup)
2 drops food coloring (Optional: You can add food coloring to color-code your gummy batches)

Why is Maestrodose better than online jello recipes?
What can I add to the mix?
What flavor is the gummy mix?
Nature Citrus Flavor. Our gummy mix uses a natural citrus flavor profile to:
a) Compliment the natural aromas of full-spectrum extracts. The citrus flavour works with your active ingredients rather than trying to over power them.
b) Works with a variety of edible gummy recipes. Think of it as a splash of citrus in your Margarita flavored gummy. Our mushroom gummy recipe uses a lemon juice extraction that pairs perfectly with the natural citrus flavor.
Why doesn't the mix include sugar?
We have left out the sugar to allow for flexibility in our recipes. You can use regular table sugar or substitute with another sweetener such as turbinado sugar (i.e. raw or cane sugar), maple syrup, or agave syrup to enhance the flavor profile of your gummies.
